Who Needs a Helm of Awe?
Do your coworkers all seem to have protective crystals cluttering their desks? Do you notice your neighbor roaming the yard burning a bundle of old sticks and murmuring unintelligibly? People driving poorly on your usual routes? An unkindness of ravens gathered in a tree across the street? Ephemeral non-specific anxiety? Heeby-jeebies? Your ex is crazy?
In the same way some people might wear a cross at all times for protection, having the Helm of Awe about your person can offer you some peace of mind. A Helm of Awe keychain, necklace or sculpture can energetically signal to the universe "Don't mess with me."
Attributed to the Norse by people who've done the field research, the symbol speaks for itself. This is why I always have one with me when I'm hiking alone in the woods, walking my dogs in the middle of the night, and at the grocery store.

Keep it in your pocket, or the center console of your car. Throw them in the gravel of your driveway. Keep them in every room of your house. You can do this with any rock and a sharpie, or get crafty with clay, sculpey, or wire.
Helm of Awe for Burning
Have your Helm of Awe ready when burning incense or sage. The ancient Norse believed in spirits associated with a family, the Disir, which could be benevolent or mischievous. I like to burn incense on ceramic plate containing the Helm of Awe. It's just more respectful that way.
